Dr. Foster at the University of California -Davis and the FCTS members discussed research ideas for future collaboration and joint research over Zoom on October 19, 2021. Dr. Foster introduced us a new perspective on Japanese cultural resources, such as symbolic characters and statues, and intangible cultural resources, such as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritages. We discussed how people interpret superstition and make meanings out of it, what physical representations symbolize, how intangible resources nurture our values, and how we can visualize those invisible meanings and values. Dr. Foster offered his views toward a variety of our daily practices and values that the FCTS members described. We learned new views from each other during the discussion. We hope to keep discussing and searching opportunities for our collaborations.
Thank you for your time and insights, Dr. Foster!
